M.R. Pittman Group, LLC is currently a joint venture partner with Kiewit Louisiana, Co. working to construct a new sector gate structure in Empire, LA for the US Army Corps of Engineers. The project consists of a new 80’-0” sector gate with pile founded flood protection structures. The project is currently ahead of schedule and working to have the new sector gate and new levee floodwall tie-in’s ahead of the 2016 hurricane season. The project also requires 65,000 CY of dredging in the existing and bypass channel, driving 150,000 LF of steel piling, driving 80,000 SF of steel sheet piling and placing 20,000 CY of reinforced concrete over 1,500 LF of floodwall and floodgate structures. Kiewit-Pittman has engineered a temporary rolling bridge that provides access to both sides of the jobsite allowing the navigation channel to remain open at all times which has been welcomed by the local fishing industries for not impacting their livelihood during this challenging project.
